Ivan's New Car

Ivan got his new car last Saturday and I got to take a ride on it. He had bought the
new Honda Jazz. Interior wise, he got the luxury version. Found many mug shaped holder inside, I guess it meant for driver and passengers to enjoy their drinks while on the move. Besides that, the new slicker outlook and no spoiler, the car is quite similar to mine.

It's funny how Ivan tried to get familiar with his new car. Though with many years of experiences, he still need a little time to get used to driving a smaller car. Performance wise for Jazz is still good.

Monuments

It's been some time since I last blog about something. After a long hiatus, I am penning this down as I found it rather meaningful. A National Education been scheduled for Total Defence to allow the instructors and trainees to visit some of the monuments that tribute lives sacrificed during the Second World War.

Looking at some of the images, let’s recall the background behind these monuments.

Tan Kim Seng Fountain created in memorial to Mr Tan Kim Seng. A philanthropist, he had donated generous sum of money to construct a system to provide piped water to town.

The Cenotaph was erected in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in First World War. It was decided after Second World War, the memorial should also remember those who sacrificed their lives too.

In remembrance of war hero Mr Lim Bo Seng, the monument, Lim Bo Seng Memorial was built. He sacrificed his life to protect his fellow comrades from being captured by the Japanese Army.

Lastly, the Civilian War Memorial is dedicated to those who perished during the Japanese Occupation. The four pillars rise to pinnacle of 92.5 metres symbolized shared experiences by the four major races. Remains of unidentified war victims were buried beneath the monument.

There was also a guest presenter who shared something that do trigger my mind on how pampered we are now. He did mention on why people no longer find it meaningful to celebrate Chinese New Year. It is true that when I was young, I do look forward to CNY as it’s only during that period I do get to have a sumptuous meal. Even for soft drinks, I do get to drink it to my heart fulfill. Yes, indeed, our lives are better and we can get new clothes any time when we only get to do so before its CNY.

Signing off.

GPS

Friends who took my car know I am pretty bad at navigating. No matter how I prepare myself by checking the road directory before leaving the house, I still get lost. My passengers will get all the nonsense from me. Ok, I am really very bad. :P

Instead of screaming at my poor passengers for not directing me or advising me in advance on the right direction, I bought a Global Positioning System (GPS).
The Packard Bell Compasseo 370 served it's basic purpose of a GPS unit. It can direct me to the correct course to take and warn me of any ERP gantries and traffic cameras ahead. The after service of Packard Bell is pretty lousy. I have sent an email on some queries I have but till now I still did not get a reply. No wonder on the website forum of Packard Bell people complaint that the service is really bad. They better pull their socks up before they lose their market space.

Self Indulgence

Got myself this recently to pamper myself. I always like rings and watches and this added to my collection.

Read someone's blog and got me thinking whether one can be friends with their exs. Do you feel randour with him/her. That's one question many may face at one point of time in their lives. When a couple broke up, where do the love go? Do people still lock in their bitter cold war after their break-up? With the increasing divorce rate, do one still believe love can last forever? when one person suggest to break-up, where has the love gone to? Does it go to the new relationship? Every relationship is different and so does the love.

I am pretty contented with my life. Just got alittle emo after reading someone's blog. Hope everyone will cherish their family, friends, and their love ones and don't let go easily. :)

Activities

Had Cohesive Day with my colleagues and trainees at Bishan Park for prawn catching. Did not try it but glad to see all the trainees having fun trying to use the fishing rod to catch those prawns. Had BBQ for breakfast followed by a light buffet. Simple way to end the Friday morning. Took a pic with my students.

Dinner was sinful with J'den, Ivan and Kesler at Ikoi at Hotel Mirama. No picture as I didn't bring it with me.

On Saturday, I went to the Botanical Gardens. It's another good feeling going to these places instead of shopping malls all the time. Let the pictures do the talking.

Random Babbling

Had a ship dinner on last Friday with former shipcrew at Paramount Hotel. The shopping center below was kind of sleazy as there were scantily dressed women around. Nonetheless, the poolside cafe made up for it though the buffet was ok. Had received the Best Ship plaque from my former boss.

Went to South Ridge Sunday and the view was great. Been some time since I had such as breeze walk and I enjoyed the view.
